It’s been a great week here at Tynan Motors.

Our service team placed first in NSW in the latest Hyundai CSI score. They scored an amazing 92.7 in the Customer Satisfaction Index. What a fantastic result that reflects our service teams hard work and dedication. We are so proud of our amazing service team!

But it’s not just about the awards from the big guys! Ms Faye Gray, one of our lovely customers, has given us some exceptional feedback. She was thrilled about the service she received from our service centre. Here’s what she had to say.

“Tynan make the whole experience far superior to going to a grubby mechanic workshop. I am confident I'm not going to be ripped off. My car is being serviced properly with genuine parts. I love the courtesy transport to the station and returning to a clean car fabulous!!! I was completely satisfied with the service provided,” said Ms Gray.

Thanks Ms Gray, we really appreciate your feedback!

Well done to our Service Team! If you need your car serviced look no further! Contact Jason Cale, Service Manager, on 8545 8534.

When driving do you ever wish that you had a second pair of eyes? Subaru has you covered.

Subaru has developed a new ‘driver assist system’ called EyeSight that is as good as a second pair of eyes on the road. The technology monitors the road ahead and recognizes potentially dangerous driving situations.

Using three-dimensional images captured by cameras mounted at the top of the windscreen, EyeSight provides both audio and visual warnings to prompt the driver to take action.

EyeSight driver features include:

-Pre-Collision Braking System

-Pre-Collision Brake Assist

-Pre-Collision Throttle Management

-Adaptive Cruise Control

-Lane Sway and Departure Warning

-Lead Vehicle Start Alert

EyeSight technology is available on the Liberty 3.6R Premium and Outback 3.6R Premium models.

The development team for the new Honda Civic Hatch included staff formerly employed by the company’s now defunct Formula One squad, whose job it was to optimise the aerodynamics of the small five-door.

The result was a 10 per cent reduction in drag over the previous version of the hatchback.

It’s a fact that easy to appreciate while driving the Civic Hatch in an environment for which it was primarily designed – banging down a German autobahn at about 160km/h – with the wind rushing past at a barely perceptible whisper.

At about $25,000 (exact prices are yet to be announced) for the base model VTi, they might reasonably expect more standard equipment, more refinement, more luxury and more technology than cheaper cars of the same size costing closer to $20,000, such as the Mazda3 Neo or Toyota Corolla Ascent.

What they’ll get is a mixture of the aforementioned attributes. Starting with the bad news, equipment levels are disappointing as the VTi lacks niceties such as cruise control or Bluetooth connectivity, nor does it get auto-on headlamps or rain sensing wipers.

All those can be found on the more expensive VTi-L model (along with leather trim, dual-zone climate control, rear parking camera and more) when the Civic Hatch is released in Australia next month, but according to Honda Australia it’s been impossible to add equipment to the VTi and retain a competitive price. Honda expects the VTi-L to account for 55 per cent of sales.

The 1.8-litre Civic Hatch with six-speed manual transmission uses a claimed 6.1 litres per 100km and produces 137 grams per km of carbon dioxide, the same as the vaunted SkyActive Mazda3 SP20 sedan achieves.

The Civic Hatch’s engine is basically that of its Thai-built sedan stablemate, although tuned to run on 95-octane fuel (cheaper 91 octane is not recommended). It produces 104kW of power at 6500rpm and 174Nm of torque at 4300rpm, exactly the same as the sedan.

Although performance is adequate, it’s not noticeably brisk unless plenty of revs are used and there’s a noticeable increase in acceleration over 4000rpm. Those wanting more bottom-end grunt may want to wait for the 1.6-litre diesel version that is still a year away and will be available only with a manual transmission.

A five-speed auto will be available as an option on the VTi and standard on the VTi-L although none was available to drive at the launch in Germany. The manual has a pleasant, light and positive shift, although when you select the Civic’s “economy” mode it has a softer, less responsive throttle action and can be more difficult to drive smoothly without using plenty of right boot. False economy, perhaps.

Other than that’s there’s refinement in spades, with a particularly plush ride, due partly to new fluid-filled mounts for the rear suspension. Apart from a not-unpleasant engine note the Civic Hatch is also quiet, giving a driving experience closer to a VW Golf than the noisier Mazda3.

Comfort isn’t at the expense of agility. The electric power steering is well weighted and precise, the VTi-L’s larger 225/45R17 tyres offer plenty of grip (the VTi gets smaller 205/55R16 rubber though) and there’s not much body roll.

Inside, the Civic Hatch has an interesting blend of typical Honda pizazz (including a sweeping moulded dashboard and digital speedo) and useful utility. On the latter front, the rear seats either fold forward for a flat load space or the base lifts upwards and locks for an even deeper carrying space.

European versions get a class-leading 477-litre boot, although that’s with no spare tyre fitted; Australian cars get a space saver, and luggage capacity is reduced to a still ample 407 litres.

The body itself is dramatically styled, continuing the avant-garde themes of its predecessor while adding more curves and angles. Rearward visibility through the rear glass is better thanks to a lower tailgate lip but rear three-quarter vision is limited by thick rear pillars.

The new Honda Civic Hatch will be released in Australia in June.

It was great day out at Eastern Creek for our Hyundai Drive to Survive Day. The sun was shinning, the cars were gleaming and the track was rough. We were ready for a day of learning that could very well save someone’s life one day.

A group of people gathered at Eastern Creek in the morning with the Drive to Survive team, ready to learn what to do in the case of an emergency on the road.

Driving is one of the most dangerous things we do- and we do it on a daily basis. While most of the time we drive without incident, we need to be prepared for moments when things go wrong.

Tynan Motors teamed with Hyundai and the Drive to Survive team to teach the 14 people that attended the event to teach them skills that could potentially save them or their family lives.

“We had a fantastic day out at the track. It was great to be involved in something that can help people every day, and help make our roads a much safer place to be. I definitely picked up a thing or two, and I hope everyone that came learnt something new as well,” said Brian Barry, General Manager at Tynan Motors.

The Drive to Survive team created obstacles and hazards around the Eastern Creek track to simulate potential hazards in the real world. The instructors then showed the group what to do in each of the scenarios to get out of them safely.

The focus of the day was on preventative strategies, but also showed people what to do if they do find themselves in a dangerous situation on the road.

One of the people who attended the day shared her thoughts on the day.

“Great instructors, great cars! Thanks for a great fun learning experience, it was a wonderful way to learn and experience such serious, important life saving skills,” said Margaret Caple.

The Hyundai i40 was a highlight of the day. Everyone was given a chance to put this beautiful car through its paces on the day.

We hope that everyone had a great day and walked away with the skills to overcome different hazards on the road so they arrive safely every time!

Beijing Motor Show 2012.

It’s a big month in the car world this May.

The merge of Chrysler with Fiat and Alfa Romeo to become the Fiat-Chrysler Group Australia was made official on the 1st of May. This merge of two of the worlds best known automotive manufacturers means many exciting things are to come down under.

Tackling the Australian market with both hands on the steering wheel, the company hopes to bring more European style to Aussie roads.

The most obvious change to Fiat and Alfa Romeo from this merge may come at a pricing level, with both brands likely to restructure their positioning in the local market. Not necessarily by dropping prices, but by adding variants.

There is something romantic about a rugged SUV; the big body, the smooth driving and the beautiful finishes. This all-American style of car has slowly become the all-Aussie style of car.

Australians are in love with the SUV, and are anxiously waiting for the release of the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 next month.

The 6.4 litre HEMI V8 powered Grand Cherokee is due for a limited release in June. The exclusive SRT8’s are expected to be in high demand in Australia, as we are the biggest takers of Jeep vehicles outside of America.

With 347kW of power and 630Nm of torque, the SRT8 accelerates from 0-100km/h in just 4.8 seconds, making it one of the fastest SUVs in the world, and certainly the fastest SUV for under $100,000 in Australia.

The SRT8 is more than a big V8 in an SUV body. Chrysler’s Street Racing Technology (SRT) team have made significant changes, such as lowering the vehicle by 30mm, adding a new spoiler, rear diffuser and dual sports exhausts. You also get active damping suspension, which allows drivers to choose between track, sport auto, snow and tow.

More details, specifications and price will be revealed closer to June.

It was all class at the launch of the Mercedes-Benz B-Class and M-class SUV last weekend.

The blue and teal motif created an elegant atmosphere for the unveiling of these spectacular vehicles.

The Tynan Motors Miranda, Mercedes-Benz showroom was transformed with amazing artwork from the Seawater Art Gallery and flower decorations from Bon Fleur. Guests enjoyed a feast of chocolate fondue from Fondue Lava with a selection of fruit, berries, marshmallows and waffles. Nibbling at chocolate drizzled strawberries, while gazing at the beautiful new beasts by Mercedes-Benz was pure luxury!

When all this decadence became too much for them, gorgeous King Furniture Concerto sofas were there to let the guests take the weight off their feet. Falling into the sea of plush cushions the guests were marveled by their immense comfort.

The blue and teal colour scheme of the event created by the flowers, artwork and furniture created a calm and sophisticated atmosphere that mirror the majestic new Mercedes-Benz vehicles.

The all new B-class Compact Sports Tourer has been hailed as setting a new standard in prestige motoring. Encompassing advanced safety and fuel-saving technologies, with a sporty contoured design it is a delight to drive.

The M-class SUV was described as being a classic SUV that encompasses the classic Mercedes-Benz style. The design shines with futuristic features and is a landmark development in SUV design.

“This new class of Mercedes-Benz is perfect for a young family, or a young couple. They combine modern features with the classic Mercedes-Benz look, that never goes out of style,” said Madeline Tynan, Marketing Director Tynan Motors.

The launch showcased a spectacular blend of great food, great art, great comfort and great vehicles to create a fantastic day. And for those lucky enough to have purchased the new vehicles, a spectacular driving future.

“It was great to see some new faces, as well as some old friends experiencing the new look of Mercedes-Benz. We had a great weekend,” said Kieran Tynan, Dealer Principal Tynan Motors Miranda, Mercedes-Benz.

By Bruce Newton from Drive.com.au.

The new hatch is more revolutionary than it looks.

As far as the future of Mercedes-Benz goes, the new second-generation B-class is much more significant than its evolutionary sheetmetal might suggest.

The B-class is the first of five new small cars from Mercedes-Benz that will roll out within the next couple of years, all built on shared underpinnings.

Next up will be the third generation A-class (early 2013), then a four-door coupe dubbed the CLA which is shown in “concept” form at the Beijing show in a couple of weeks, an SUV and a fifth model tipped to be a small sedan or convertible.

These cars are designed to elevate Benz to serious player status in the global compact luxury market, introducing the three-pointed star to a whole new generation of car buyers.

The B-class gives us a first driving impression of the company’s new common platform. It’s also our first taste of new generation of turbo-petrol four-cylinder engines, a vastly uprated turbo-diesel and Benz’s first dual-clutch transmission.

The B-class encompasses a cheaper, more efficient and better-equipped car.

Okay, not exactly exciting, but then this is the most family-oriented among the coming offerings and designed very much to be an all-rounder. For exciting you might need to wait for the AWD 200kW AMG A-class that is said to be on its way in 2014.

Most of our experience was gained in the B200 BlueEfficiency, which is powered by a 115k/250Nm 1.6-litre turbo-petrol direct-injection four-cylinder engine. Once the sludgy Eco mode is deactivated, freeing up both throttle and gearshift, it proves to be a lively, smooth and tractable engine, capable of keeping up with the traffic and hauling its 1395kg kerb weight along without struggling.

True oomph is provided by the B200 CDI 2.0-litre turbo-diesel, its 300Nm of pulling power available from just 1600rpm to 3000rpm. Eighty kilograms of extra weight take a little off the diesel’s accelerative edge and also make the ride that little bit edgier.

Despite its entry-level status the B180 manages to perform more than adequately. Its 90kW 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine makes a still useful 200Nm and having the lightest weight also helps its ride quality and the light response of the electro-mechanical steering.

The B-class is a reliable rather than exciting handler. There isn’t that much steering feel or a sense of nimbleness. Instead, this is a car that likes to settle into a corner and stick to it. However, it does change lines better and feel less proppy than its 47mm taller predecessor.

A massive glass area in most directions provides great vision for carpark work. Rearward the view is limited, but standard parking sensors aid reversing and a rear-view camera is a $549 option.

Run-flat tyres are a controversial addition to the B-class, but while noticeable they don’t cruel the ride like earlier generations did on rival BMWs. However, there is still some harshness on rougher roads and noise intrusion on coarse surfaces.

Undoubtedly smoother is the B-class’s interior, which has taken a significant step forward from its predecessor. The three-air con vents and fixed media screen in the upper centre-stack are dominant features. The driver gets a reach and rake adjustable multi-function steering wheel and proper left footrest.

The decision to lengthen and lower the body has increased passenger space but reduced luggage capacity, albeit to a still substantial 488 litres. Four adult passengers will fit comfortably and also have enough storage space to fit drinks, mobiles and various “i” devices.
