This year is a leap year. And in a leap year two things happen: Firstly, it means we get an extra day, which is always exciting in theory, but in reality usually just means another day at work. But leap years also mean that the Olympics are coming. And this year, the 2012 games are being held in London. Now, they’re not likely to be as good as the Sydney games back in 2000; they are widely regarded as the best Olympics ever, and represented a special time for Australia on the world stage.
But we’ll all still be tuning into London to see the world’s best go at it full tilt. And let’s hope we see a thunderbolt from Usain. But this got us thinking. The Olympic motto is ‘Faster, Higher, Stronger’. It’s simple and to the point. Essentially that is what all athletic competition is about. But if you applied the same philosophy to cars, which one would emerge triumphant?
Certainly a strong favourite for gold would have to be the Jeep® Cherokee. This is a car of Olympian proportions. And one that epitomises the Olympic motto. Let’s examine the evidence.
There might be faster cars on the road when it comes to a flat race. But as every runner knows, it’s not always about pure speed. It’s also about control and timing. Knowing when to put the burners on and use the power that’s in the tank. The Cherokee comes with a choice of the 3.7L SOHC 12V V6 petrol or 2.8L CRD DOHC 16V I-4 turbo diesel engines. Both of these pack enough punch to give anyone a good race but it’s power when you need it that matters most. Get yourself in a tricky spot on the highway and you know with the Jeep Cherokee transmission you’ll simply cruise out of trouble. And if the race happens to be off-road, then there will only ever be one winner. With a Jeep Cherokee, you have the legendary off-road capability and the Selec-Trac II® active full-time 4WD that leaves all others in its wake.
When it comes to higher and stronger, there is simply no competition. Jeep cars are designed to take you further up the trail than any other. With incredible mountain climbing capability, there’s no other car that can climb like it. The raw, brutal strength of the Cherokee is something to behold.
In this Olympic year, medals will be won and lost but one true champion will be crowned: the Jeep Cherokee.
