Stay Safe on the Roads This Easter: Police Issue Warnings Ahead of Holiday Festivities banner

As Easter approaches, families across Australia are gearing up for road trips and long weekends filled with festivities. However, amidst the excitement, it's crucial to heed the warnings issued by police nationwide. With increased road presence and targeted operations, authorities are striving to ensure road safety during this holiday period.

The police are emphasizing the importance of responsible driving, particularly focusing on impaired driving, speeding, distracted driving, and reckless behavior. These measures are not just about enforcing the law but ensuring the safety of all road users, as the influx of travelers is expected to surge over the Easter break.

From March 28th to April 1st, 2024, except for Queensland, where operations extend until April 14th, and Tasmania, with no official end date, police forces across the country will be actively conducting road operations. In several states, including Western Australia, New South Wales, Queensland, and the Australian Capital Territory, double demerits will be enforced throughout the public holiday period.

Brett McFadden, NSW Traffic and Highway Patrol Commander, emphasized the significance of safe driving practices in a recent media statement. "We want all of you to arrive safely at your destination and enjoy the Easter long weekend with loved ones," he said. "We are asking every person who gets behind the wheel of a motor vehicle or hops on a motorcycle to be responsible and do everything they can to keep themselves, their passengers, and other road users safe."

These warnings come at a crucial time as Australia grapples with a concerning rise in road fatalities. According to the Bureau of Infrastructure, Transport, and Regional Economics (BITRE), the country recorded the highest number of road fatalities since 2019, with 1286 reported from February 2023 to February 2024.

As we anticipate the joys of Easter celebrations, let's also prioritize safety on our roads. Whether you're embarking on a long journey or simply driving around town, remember to stay vigilant, adhere to speed limits, avoid distractions, and never drive under the influence. By taking proactive measures and exercising caution, we can ensure a safer and more enjoyable Easter for everyone.
