Get Ready for the Revolution: The All-New Renault 5 Breaks Cover

As anticipation builds for the Geneva Motor Show in March 2024, Renault has given us a sneak peek into the future with the first images of the production version of the all-new 2024 Renault 5. This compact, all-electric hatchback is set to make waves with its innovative design, cutting-edge technology, and a promise of affordable electric mobility.

A Subtle Evolution from Concept to Reality

The images released showcase subtle changes from the original retro Renault 5 prototype concept revealed in 2021. Notable modifications include revised crescent-shaped LED headlights that lean towards a more conventional design compared to the concept's projector-style lamps. The bonnet features a larger charge indicator with a '5' logo, allowing owners to gauge the battery's status at a glance.

Towards the rear, a muscular wheel arch retains the concept's proportions, emphasizing the futuristic appeal of the R5. However, the rear boot lid has undergone a transformation, introducing a three-dimensional stacked LED lamp and a refined full-width light bar.

Renault has hinted at full details being disclosed closer to the official unveiling at the Geneva Motor Show. The flagship versions are expected to boast a 52kWh battery, providing an impressive range of up to 400km.

Revolutionary Architecture for Affordability and Performance

The Renault 5 is not just a stylish electric vehicle; it is the first car built on the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance's all-new CMF-B EV architecture tailored for small EVs. Sharing 70% of its parts with the combustion platform underpinning models like the Renault Clio and Captur, the R5 benefits from cost efficiencies, potentially making it up to 30% cheaper to produce than the Renault ZOE.

Despite cost-conscious engineering, the R5 does not compromise on performance. It incorporates a multi-link rear suspension, promising a new standard for handling in its class. Weight-saving measures, including a unique battery arrangement split into four modules, contribute to enhanced dynamics and increased range. A lighter 40kWh battery pack will also be available.

A Range of Electric Options

The Renault 5 is set to debut with a 100kW electric motor powering the front wheels. Future iterations will include a hot hatch version with a larger battery and a robust 160kW electric motor, appealing to enthusiasts seeking both performance and sustainability.

Renault's commitment to cutting-edge technology is evident in the R5's bidirectional vehicle-to-grid (V2G) charging capability, allowing owners to contribute to the power grid. This feature aligns with Renault's vision of not just an electric vehicle but a dynamic participant in the energy ecosystem.

Embracing the Future: Renault 5's Market Arrival

Renault enthusiasts in select European countries, including France, Germany, Spain, Belgium, the Netherlands, and the UK, have the opportunity to secure priority orders by purchasing the R5 R Pass for €150 ($A250). This exclusive offer also includes a toy R5 and ensures these early adopters are among the first to experience the Renault 5.

While the Geneva Motor Show on February 26, 2024, will mark the official unveiling of the 2024 Renault 5 with an expected price tag of around €25,000 ($A41,000), there is no official word on the Australian release date. However, the small hatch and the upcoming R4 SUV are confirmed to join the Australian market, signaling Renault's commitment to electrifying its lineup Down Under. Get ready for a new era of electric driving with the Renault 5 leading the charge.
