The Tough New LDV T60

LDV is apart of SAIC – Shanghai Automotive International Group which has a wide range of automotive brands under its umbrella and targeting worldwide sales of 7.6 million vehicles this year. Here in Australia the Ateco Automotive Group is LDV’s seller and distributor of the popular G10 and V80 vans. Ateco has expectations that the T60 will also become a best-seller.

About the T60

The LDV T60 is targeting two separate markets, the family and recreational lifestyle and the workman for work sites or jobs such as couriers and fleet operators. At this stage the T60 will be offered only as a dual cab but will eventually grow to include a single and dual cabs, cab/chassis and, at a later date, possibly a mega-cab (extended dual cab) version. A two or four wheel drive version will be available on the market that is powered by a 2.8-litre turbo diesel made by an Italian company, VM Motori. A five-speed manual transmission or a six-speed automatic will be available for purchase.

Physically, the T60 is a big Ute. Measurements show that it has the overall length of 5365mm and a width of 1900mm. This however leaves plenty of room under the bonnet to get around the motor and add a second battery if desired.

Those who don’t mind getting off-road and taking it for a drive will like that the T60 4×4 offers good approach and departure angles of 27.1 degrees and 24.5 degrees respectively, but the ramp-over angle is negatively impacted by the that considerable length.

The up-market model offers outstanding features if your looking to buy for family/work purposes with plush leather seats and abundant interior space including adult-size dimensions for those seated in the second row. It’s even equipped with satellite navigation, electric windows and mirrors and a great big stereo.

Ateco are currently working with ANCAP to make sure all the boxes are ticked in a goal to achieve a 5 star ANCAP safety rating in Australia. The T60 is fitted with six airbags, Electronic Stability Program (ESP) with traction control, ABS anti-lock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution, lane-departure warning system, a 360-degree camera system, reversing camera and LED headlights.

From the first moment you start the vehicle, your impressed as the VM Motori turbo-diesel quickly spins up to peak power.  The T60 has strong power on sweeping corners and the rear wheels don’t spin or over steer thanks to the intervention of electronics that cut power to keep it on track. Breaking is great in the vehicle with a short stopping distance and ABS does a great job of keeping the T60 on track.

The T60 has astonishing 16-inch alloy wheels with 245/70R16 Dunlop Grandtrek tyres which, with on-road tread patterns, provided good grip.

The Australian launch of the LDV T60 is five months away with pricing still not available for Australia however we know the T60 will come with a three-year 100,000km warranty.
