Suzuki has confirmed its highly anticipated Jimny and updated Vitara will officially go on sale in January 2019.

With over 200 pre-orders before pricing and specification has been confirmed, Suzuki Australia says undecided enthusiasts will be able to test drive the Japanese 4×4 cult car from January 26 2019.

The fourth-generation small off-roader continues to ride on a ladder-frame chassis with dual-range transmission and front and rear live axles, while outside harks back to the original model with strong retro design.

Specification is yet to be confirmed, but the Jimny will come with the choice of either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission mated to a 1.5-litre four-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine producing 75kW and 130Nm. Though light on output, the Jimny’s diminutive proportions mean it is a featherweight.

The Jimny will be joined in showrooms on Australia Day with the Vitara Series 2 which brings a facelift and updated safety features such as AEB and lane departure warning but drops the 1.6-litre diesel engine in favour of a petrol-only lineup.
