Jeep Wrangler Rubicon seals podium finish and taking out the crown against six rivals in the 4X4OTY gong. The prize was revealed at the 2020 Australian Motoring Awards, held at the Showgrounds in Flemington, Melbourne.

2020 4X4OTY: finalists

After an exhaustive testing process, our stocked vehicles were compared against the proven 4X4 Australia judging criteria: value for money; breaking new ground; built tough; usability; and doing the job. Although the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon deservingly took home the grand prize, we were still more than impressed by the performance of the competing vehicles.

Following the lengthy judging process, with an often-heated debate, The Jeep’s Wrangler Rubicon was proven to be the very best of the lot, although with a very slight margin between the following contenders:

Jeep Wrangler Rubicon: 246
Suzuki Jimny: 244
Mitsubishi Triton: 224
Mercedes-Benz X350d: 211

It’s more than fitting that the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon rises to the top level of the stand here and not just for what it does. The Rubicon rates highly in terms of 4×4 history and its near-flawless bloodline back to where the 4×4 world as we know it today all begun.

Hats off to Jeep for showing rivals how the basic 4×4 design principles of a separate chassis and front and rear live-axle suspension when other 4×4 manufacturers have turned their back on this old-school method, which is still the finest way to build a serious 4×4.
