The mid-size Chinese SUV, the 2024 Chery Tiggo 7 Pro, is scheduled to arrive in Australian showrooms later this year with a gasoline engine.

The Tiggo 7 Pro, which replaces the Omoda 5 small SUV in the lineup, is Chery's second model since it returned to Australia earlier this year following a seven-year absence.

It is a small to mid-size SUV that is marginally bigger than the Toyota Corolla Cross, Nissan Qashqai, or Haval Jolion but marginally smaller than the Mazda CX-5 or Volkswagen Tiguan.

The Tiggo 7 Pro has been on the market in China since 2020, but the version destined for Australia has been modified with a new front fascia design, a more contemporary dashboard resembling the Omoda 5, and design cues akin to the most recent Kia models.

The front-wheel-drive Urban, front-wheel-drive Elite, and all-wheel-drive Ultimate are the three model grades that will be available at first.

All versions will be powered by a 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine. In Chinese models it develops 147kW and 290Nm, matched with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

18-inch alloy wheels, leather-look seat upholstery, sizable infotainment and instrument screens, satellite navigation, 360-degree cameras, and wireless smartphone charging are among the features revealed in Chery's earliest photos of an Australian model.

The 2024 Chery Tiggo 7 Pro will be available in local dealerships "later this year," according to Chery Australia. A local debut is anticipated sooner rather than later given that the photograph depicts a model built to Australian specifications on a New South Wales registration.
