Current Mahindra Lineup:

While Mahindra's presence in Australia is relatively modest at the moment, the brand is gearing up for significant growth, particularly in the SUV segment.

Ambitious Goals:

Joydeep Moitra, Mahindra Auto's Head of APAC, revealed the brand's aspiration to secure a spot among the top 10 SUV brands in Australia by 2030. Despite not specifying volume targets, Mahindra is confident in its products, capabilities, and network partnerships, aiming to capitalize on the SUV craze in the Australian market.

"We have set ourselves a timeframe of 2030, so we will work towards that, for the top 10 in the SUV space (in Australia)," stated Mr. Moitra.

SUV Dominance in Australia:

The Australian automotive landscape is witnessing a surge in SUV sales, with 627,187 units sold up to November 2023, a notable 19.3% increase compared to the same period last year. The electric SUV segment, in particular, has experienced significant growth, surging by 295%, indicating a shifting trend towards more sustainable mobility options.

Electric SUV Strategy:

While Mahindra doesn't plan to launch new electric SUVs in Australia in 2024, the brand has set a strategic timeline for introducing its electric SUV models within the next "two to three years." Mahindra envisions playing to its strengths by offering affordable pricing and equipping its electric SUV lineup with long standard equipment lists, a move that aligns with the evolving preferences of the Australian market.

Mahindra's bold aspirations in Australia signal a strategic shift for the brand, positioning itself as a formidable contender in the highly competitive SUV market. With plans to introduce electric SUVs in the coming years and a commitment to affordability and feature-rich offerings, Mahindra is poised to carve a significant niche for itself in the Australian automotive landscape.
