    Mitsubishi’s Commitment to Safety Recognised

In a major milestone for both the brand and the dual-cab ute market, the 2024 Mitsubishi Triton has become the first dual-cab utility vehicle to be crash-tested under ANCAP’s new 2023–2025 safety criteria – and it’s come out on top with a five-star safety rating.

Here at Tynan Mitsubishi Kirrawee, we’re proud to stock a vehicle that not only delivers on toughness and reliability, but also leads the way in safety innovation. This rating reinforces Mitsubishi’s commitment to building vehicles that Aussies can trust – whether on the worksite, on family road trips, or tackling the toughest conditions.

ANCAP’s New Testing Regime – Triton Sets the Benchmark

The Australian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) applied its latest, more stringent criteria to the all-new Triton, testing every aspect from occupant safety to crash avoidance and protection of other road users. The five-star rating applies to all 2WD and 4WD Double Cab variants, and as of May 27, 2025, extra-cab pick-up and cab-chassis models have also received the same five-star score.

“This rating demonstrates Mitsubishi’s determination and ability to design, build and deliver a five-star product,” said ANCAP CEO Carla Hoorweg.

She also highlighted the importance of safety in the ute segment, noting that these vehicles serve dual purposes as work tools and family transport.

What Earned the Triton Its Five Stars?

The Mitsubishi Triton’s standout performance came in a range of rigorous physical crash tests:

    • Maximum scores for adult and child occupant protection in frontal and side impacts.
    • High levels of protection for the driver and front-seat passenger.
    • Top marks for both child dummies in frontal- and side-impact scenarios.

However, the report did indicate areas for improvement, particularly in protecting smaller rear passengers. A ‘weak’ chest protection score and an increased risk of abdominal injury were noted during the full-width frontal crash test.

Still, in comparison to other vehicles in its class, the Triton performed exceptionally well, even when it came to mitigating injury to occupants in other vehicles during a crash.

Safety Tech: Room to Grow, But Already Impressive

The Triton includes a comprehensive Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) system, but was marked down in the Safety Assist category due to its limitations in complex scenarios like intersection T-bone or head-on crashes.

Another pioneering element of the Triton’s safety suite is its Driver Monitoring System (DMS) – one of the first to be evaluated under ANCAP’s protocol. While it meets requirements for detecting fatigue and distraction, ANCAP suggests there’s room to reduce unnecessary alerts.

Nonetheless, this cutting-edge tech makes the Triton a standout in its class.
