A Legacy Reignited: Tynan Motors Returns to Forshaw Park with Southern Districts
Southern Districts Rugby Club is proud to welcome back a familiar name — and a meaningful part of its history with Tynan Motors returning as Major Sponsor and Naming Rights Partner of Tynan Motors Forshaw Park for the next two years.
More than a sponsorship, the partnership represents a deep and lasting connection to the Sutherland Shire community.
In the 1960s, James Goyen (Michael Tynan’s father-in-law) was the key figure behind the development of Sylvania Waters. He donated the land that would become Forshaw Park (on the condition it remained as a rugby ground) — originally home to Port Hacking Rugby Club. When Port Hacking merged with St George in 1989 to form Southern Districts, that legacy carried forward. Today, it comes full circle. And the fact that Kieran, Brendan, Nicholas, Samuel, Dominic, and Harry Tynan all played for the club.
Now Brendan Tynan is coaching junior rugby and Sofia and Madeline Jnr (his daughters) are playing rugby for the Bull Dogs, continuing the Tynan Rugby legacy.
Southern Districts Rugby Club President Aaran Duncan said the club is excited to welcome Tynan Motors back at such a pivotal time, as the 2027 Rugby World Cup will be held in Australia.
“We’re thrilled to have Tynan Motors back with us,” he said.
“Our club is taking big steps forward, both on and off the field. With their support, alongside our other partners, we’re building something sustainable that will benefit our players, members and the wider community for years to come.”
Tynan Motors Director Madeline Tynan said the partnership is especially meaningful for the family.
“Forshaw Park is part of our family’s story, so to see Tynan Motors back involved with the club that now calls it home is incredibly special,” she said.
“We’ve always believed in supporting our local community, and Southern Districts Rugby Club plays such an important role in bringing people together. To be part of that again — and to help support the club’s future — is something we’re really proud of.”
Southern Districts teams will run out this Saturday in Tynan Motors-branded jerseys for their ANZAC Day clashes against Hunter, marking the first official outing under the renewed partnership.
With strong foundations and shared values, the partnership signals an exciting new chapter for both Tynan Motors and Southern Districts Rugby Club.
