At Tynan Chery Wollongong, we pride ourselves on bringing cutting-edge vehicles from one of the world’s fastest-growing automotive innovators to the Illawarra region. The latest development? Chery is gearing up to relaunch its Rely brand, a bold step into the global light commercial vehicle (LCV) market with a strong focus on technology, versatility, and electrification.

    Meet Chery’s Newest Brand: Rely

According to a recent report from Car News China, Chery Rely will become the manufacturer’s "global intelligent pick-up ecosystem brand", joining its already robust lineup that includes Omoda, Jaecoo, Jetour, Exeed, and Karry. Designed to offer maximum flexibility, Rely will cater to a variety of markets with internal combustion, plug-in hybrid (PHEV), battery electric (BEV), and range-extender powertrains.

This forward-thinking approach means that whether you’re looking for a reliable work ute, an eco-conscious electric dual-cab, or a tech-savvy hybrid option, Rely aims to deliver.

The KP11 Prototype and Chery’s Mars Architecture

The Rely lineup will feature four distinct product lines with up to 16 different variants, one of which will likely be the production version of the KP11 prototype revealed in October 2024. Built on Chery’s modular Mars architecture, the upcoming Rely models are expected to boast:

    • Semi-autonomous driving systems
    • AI-embedded electrical architecture
    • Advanced cockpit technology
    • Versatile powertrain platforms

The first model is expected to measure approximately 5400mm in length with a 3300mm wheelbase, placing it firmly in the dual-cab ute category and making it a direct competitor to other Chinese contenders like the BYD Shark 6, GWM Cannon, LDV T60, MG U9, and JAC T9.

Will Chery Rely Come to Australia?

While Chery Australia has not officially confirmed the Rely range for local release, the company has made no secret of its interest in bringing a dual-cab ute to Australian showrooms. According to Tim Krieger, Chery Australia’s Head of Public Relations:

“We’re always interested in reviewing the exciting product from our head office. However, currently there are no plans for this product in Australia.”

Still, given Australia’s deep enthusiasm for utility vehicles, and the booming interest in new-energy commercial vehicles, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Chery Rely arrive at Tynan Chery Wollongong in the near future.

A Growing Global and Local Market

Chery’s move into light commercial vehicles aligns with broader industry trends. In March 2025 alone, China recorded over 58,000 LCV sales, marking a 13.1% year-on-year increase. Sales of new-energy utes surged 187% in the same month, showing clear demand for electric and hybrid utes — a trend that mirrors Australia’s own shift toward EV-friendly utilities.
