COMING SOON TO AUSTRALIA: iCaur V23 Electric Off-Roader – The Future of Compact 4x4s at Tynan Chery Wollongong
Australia’s EV landscape is about to get a bold new player. One of China’s largest car manufacturers, Chery, is preparing to launch a rugged new electric SUV under its off-road-focused sub-brand, iCaur – and it’s headed to Australian showrooms in 2025. At Tynan Chery Wollongong, we’re excited to share what could be the perfect electric alternative to the Suzuki Jimny.
Meet iCaur: Chery’s New Electric Off-Road Brand
Known as iCar in China, the brand will launch internationally as iCaur to avoid trademark conflicts. The first model in the lineup, the iCaur V23, is set to make its debut in Australia as early as mid-2025. Engineered to be more than just a city EV, the V23 promises authentic off-road styling and capabilities combined with cutting-edge electric power.
This pint-sized powerhouse offers a claimed driving range of up to 500km, advanced off-road geometry, and a rugged yet tech-savvy interior—making it a serious contender in the compact SUV space.
iCaur V23 vs. Suzuki Jimny: A Modern Rival Emerges
Slightly larger than the five-door Suzuki Jimny, the iCaur V23 measures 4220mm long and 1915mm wide, offering more space and a broader stance. It's closer in size to a Mazda CX-3, yet retains the upright, boxy off-road aesthetic akin to a Toyota LandCruiser 70 Series, with nods to the iconic 40 Series.

Inside the V23: High-Tech Meets Rugged Practicality
Despite its rugged exterior, the V23 is modern and minimalist inside, highlighted by:
- 15.4-inch infotainment touchscreen
- Traditional rotary controls for essential functions
- Vehicle-to-load (V2L) capabilities
- Fast charging (30% to 80% in just 30 minutes)
It is a strict four-seater, but with a smart layout and upright cabin, it offers impressive comfort for adventurers and daily commuters alike.
Off-Road Functionality Without Compromise
The iCaur V23 doesn’t come with locking differentials or low-range gearing, but it does include multiple off-road drive modes. With 210mm of ground clearance, a 43° approach angle, and 41° departure angle, it’s well-equipped for sand, dirt, and rocky trails around Wollongong and the South Coast.
Looking Ahead: The iCaur Line-Up Expands
Following the V23, the larger V25 hybrid SUV (similar in size to the Jeep Wrangler) is expected in late 2026, and the smaller V21 electric SUV is due by 2027. Additionally, the iCaur 03—a Subaru Crosstrek-sized EV—could join the lineup, offering another compelling option for compact SUV buyers in Australia.
