As part of the Geely Australia study tour surrounding Auto China 2026 in Beijing, Tynan Motors CEO Daniel Tynan and third-generation family member Nicholas Tynan joined Australian motoring experts for an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the newly opened Geely Global Safety Centre in Ningbo, China.

Located approximately two hours southeast of Geely’s headquarters in Hangzhou, the cutting-edge facility showcases Geely Auto Group’s commitment to world-class vehicle safety, advanced engineering and next-generation mobility innovation.

For the Tynan Motors leadership team, the experience offered valuable insight into the extensive testing and research that supports Geely’s rapidly growing global presence.

    A World-Class Automotive Safety Facility

Spanning an impressive 45,000 square metres, the Geely Global Safety Centre is one of the most advanced automotive safety laboratories in the world and currently holds five world records, including:

    • Largest automotive safety laboratory (81,930.745 m²)
    • Longest indoor car crash test track (293.39 metres)
    • Largest altitude-climate adjustable wind tunnel facility for vehicle testing
    • Largest arbitrary-angle car crash test zone
    • Most safety tests available in an automaker safety test laboratory

The facility has been purpose-built to meet the evolving demands of modern vehicle development, particularly in the areas of electric vehicles, intelligent mobility and advanced driver safety technologies.

Behind the Scenes: Touring the Testing Facilities

During the tour, guests were given a firsthand look at several specialised testing areas within the centre, including:

    • Dummy Laboratory
    • Altitude Climatic Wind Tunnel
    • Precision Measurement Laboratory
    • All-Weather Environment Simulation Area
    • Sled Laboratory
    • Vehicle Crash Laboratory

One of the highlights of the visit was witnessing a live crash test demonstration, providing an up-close look at the precision, technology and engineering processes involved in modern vehicle safety testing.

The Geely Global Safety Centre is designed to cover the full spectrum of global automotive safety standards and evaluations. Testing capabilities include high-speed crash simulations, pedestrian protection systems, active safety technology assessments, battery and new energy vehicle safety testing, cybersecurity evaluations and health-related safety research.

Geely’s Commitment to Safety and Innovation

For Daniel Tynan, Nicholas Tynan and the Tynan Motors management team, the visit reinforced Geely’s strong commitment to innovation, quality and customer safety.

As Geely continues expanding globally and introducing advanced vehicle technologies into markets like Australia, facilities such as the Geely Global Safety Centre demonstrate the extensive investment being made into research, engineering and future mobility solutions.

The tour also highlighted how Geely is combining traditional vehicle safety expertise with emerging technologies such as AI, electrification and intelligent driver assistance systems to shape the future of motoring.
