Introducing the Kia Tasman: Born for Australia, Built to Last
When designing a vehicle for one of the world’s toughest landscapes, it takes resilience, ingenuity, and durability. Meet the Kia Tasman – the most Australian Kia ever built. After enduring an intensive testing and durability program across Australia’s rugged terrain, the Tasman is set to make waves as the brand's first ute, engineered for the great outdoors and urban adventures alike. Coming to Tynan Kia Sutherland in 2025, the Tasman reflects Kia's commitment to providing Aussies with a vehicle designed from the ground up for Australian conditions.
The Kia Tasman is built for dependability and hard work, inspired by Aussie ingenuity. With an official launch scheduled in South Korea in early 2025, the Tasman will soon roll out across Australia, Africa, and the Middle East, bringing high standards of performance and durability to a diverse array of drivers and terrains. So far, Kia has introduced dual-cab pickup and cab-chassis variants, but single-cab configurations are expected down the road. Locals can expect base, X-Line, and X-Pro variants, with specifications and pricing to be revealed closer to its launch here.
Engine Options & Drivetrains
The Tasman’s power and adaptability are defined by its engine and drivetrain options. The Tasman will offer both petrol and diesel options, though only the Diesel New R engine is confirmed for Australia. This powerhouse is built to handle everything from towing to rough roads, complemented by Kia’s frequency-sensitive damper control and hydraulic rebound stop technology to reduce vibrations for a smoother, more comfortable ride.
With a four-wheel-drive system that toggles automatically to provide optimal traction, the Tasman adapts to changing terrain effortlessly. The X-Line and X-Pro variants offer selectable drive modes, including Eco, Smart, Sand, Mud, Snow, and a Rock mode for the X-Pro. In the X-Pro, ground clearance is elevated to 252mm, providing extra off-road capability with its all-terrain tires and electronically locking rear differential.
A Modern, Minimalist Design
While many pickups go for oversized styling, the Kia Tasman takes a different approach with a “basic, honest form.” Designed for durability with upright glass and sleek lines, it’s a ute that avoids unnecessary bulk. Inside, the Tasman exudes the same rugged practicality, featuring a widescreen assembly with a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, 5.0-inch climate display, and 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.
Thoughtful design continues throughout the cabin, with user-friendly touches like storage bins under the rear seats, a large folding console table, dual wireless charging pads, and a Ground View Monitor to give drivers an improved view of the terrain. Kia has also ensured that the Tasman has best-in-segment space, with reclining rear seats for passenger comfort.
Sustainable Features for a Greener Future
The Tasman not only brings strength to the table but also sustainability, incorporating eco-friendly finishes like bio-plastic dashboard trim, PET carpet made from recycled materials, and bio-PU synthetic leather upholstery. This commitment to reducing its environmental impact makes the Tasman a standout for eco-conscious adventurers.
