Kia Tasman Conquers the Infamous Beer O'Clock Hill – A New Era for Aussie Utes
Tynan Kia Sutherland is proud to present the all-new Kia Tasman – a powerful, capable, and confidently Australian ute that has already proven its worth before even hitting customer driveways.
In a stunning feat of off-road performance, the Kia Tasman X-Pro has successfully tackled one of Australia’s toughest off-road challenges: Beer O’Clock Hill in Queensland. This daunting climb at The Springs 4x4 Adventure Park has defeated competitors like the BYD Shark 6, and even gave other top-tier utes multiple attempts to make it to the summit.
Kia Tasman: First Attempt, First Success
Unlike other vehicles that struggled to summit the steep, rocky incline, the Kia Tasman X-Pro made it up Beer O’Clock Hill on its very first attempt. Its only modification? A set of Mickey Thompson Boss all-terrain tyres.
Despite being equipped with only a rear differential lock – compared to competitors like the GWM Cannon Alpha which features both front and rear locks – the Tasman relied on its advanced traction control software and Rock mode to overcome the odds.
“For a rear-locked-only vehicle to get up this hill is just incredible,” said Lucas Bree, owner of the off-road park, who tested the vehicle for his Team Bree Offroad YouTube channel.
Engineered for Australian Conditions
The Tasman’s design and engineering clearly reflect Kia’s focus on Australian terrain and buyer expectations. Ground clearance proved excellent, with minimal underbody scuffing even after the tough climb – a sign of the Tasman's robust off-road credentials.
Although the climb wasn’t completely smooth – with a minor engine shutoff and an awkward gear upshift – these are pre-production issues that Kia is expected to resolve before full-scale customer deliveries begin. And even with those hiccups, the vehicle displayed outstanding control, traction, and stability.
“The car doesn’t feel super unstable or anything like that… I feel confident in the car,” Bree added.
