MG HS Super Hybrid Set to Electrify Aussie Roads in 2025
MG Motor Australia is charging ahead with its electrified future, confirming that the MG HS Super Hybrid will arrive in Australian showrooms — including Tynan MG Sutherland — in the fourth quarter of 2025. Promising impressive fuel efficiency and a tailored plug-in hybrid (PHEV) setup for local conditions, the Super Hybrid is a bold move in Australia’s highly competitive mid-size SUV market.
A Super Hybrid Built for Australia
MG says this isn’t just another global model dropped into local showrooms. Instead, the HS Super Hybrid has been specifically tuned for Australian roads, with a larger battery aimed at delivering better fuel economy and improved performance.
“MG Super Hybrid is being designed for Australian driving conditions,” the company confirmed. “It will be a plug-in hybrid option with a large battery to help support greater fuel efficiency.”
While full Australian specifications are still under wraps, the UK version gives us a strong hint of what to expect:
- A 105kW 1.5L turbo-petrol engine
- A 154kW electric motor
- A substantial 24.7kWh battery
- 220kW/350Nm combined output
- An EV-only range of up to 120km (WLTP)
- 0.5L/100km fuel consumption on a full charge
- 0–100km/h in just 6.8 seconds
This represents a serious performance upgrade compared to the standard MG HS 1.5T, which delivers 125kW and a 0–100km/h time of 9.4 seconds.
HS Hybrid+ Also Incoming
Before the Super Hybrid’s launch, MG Australia will introduce the HS Hybrid+, set to arrive in the second half of 2025. This self-charging hybrid is powered by a 165kW/340Nm petrol-electric setup and offers combined fuel economy of 5.2L/100km — a compelling alternative to hybrid leaders like the Toyota RAV4.
Unlike the PHEV Super Hybrid, the Hybrid+ features a smaller 1.83kWh battery that charges via the engine and doesn’t offer plug-in capability.
Boosting MG’s SUV Presence
The HS currently plays in Australia’s largest new vehicle segment but lacks any electrified variants — until now. With both the Hybrid+ and Super Hybrid arriving in late 2025, MG is positioning the HS to become a more competitive contender among eco-conscious Australian drivers.
Tynan MG Sutherland is excited to welcome both models to the showroom, offering customers more choice in the electrified SUV space.
MG’s sales are already trending upward, with 463 new HS units registered in March 2025, marking a 55.9% increase from the same month in 2024. Year-to-date, MG HS sales are up 31.7%, but still trail far behind hybrid market heavyweights like the RAV4 and Mitsubishi Outlander.
As hybrid and PHEV sales in Australia continue to soar — up 34.8% and 286.4% respectively — MG’s electrified HS lineup arrives at the perfect time.
