NSW Mobile Speed Camera Program Extended While Long-Term Future Remains Under Review
Six-Month Extension Announced for New South Wales Mobile Speed Cameras
The New South Wales Government has confirmed a six-month extension to the state's mobile speed camera program, ensuring enforcement will continue while a long-term contract is finalised.
Transport for NSW has extended its agreement with Acusensus, the current provider of mobile speed camera services, as discussions continue regarding the future of the program beyond the extension period.
For NSW motorists, the announcement means mobile speed cameras will remain active across the state while the next phase of the contract is determined.
What Has Been Announced?
According to Acusensus, Transport for NSW has agreed to extend the existing Mobile Speed Camera Services Agreement by six months.
The extension allows the current program to continue uninterrupted while the tender process for a new long-term contract remains underway.
At this stage, no decision has been announced regarding who will provide mobile speed camera services once the new contract is awarded.
Who Is Acusensus?
Acusensus has been operating New South Wales' mobile speed camera program since 1 July 2021.
The Australian technology company is also well known for its AI-powered road safety systems, including mobile phone detection and seatbelt enforcement cameras used across several Australian states.
What Does This Mean for NSW Drivers?
For motorists, there are no immediate changes to how mobile speed cameras operate throughout New South Wales.
Drivers should continue to:
- Observe posted speed limits.
- Slow down in school zones and roadwork areas.
- Drive to changing road and weather conditions.
- Remember that mobile speed cameras can be deployed across a wide range of roads.
While the contract extension is temporary, enforcement activities are expected to continue as normal during this period.
Road Safety Remains the Priority
The continuation of the mobile speed camera program reflects the NSW Government's ongoing focus on improving road safety and reducing serious crashes caused by speeding.
Acusensus Founder and Managing Director Alexander Jannink said the extension allows the program to continue delivering important road safety outcomes for people across New South Wales.
As discussions continue around the next long-term contract, motorists are encouraged to stay informed and continue practising safe driving habits every time they get behind the wheel.
