As the automotive industry charges ahead into the electric future, Ram has been making headlines with its ambitious electrified line-up. However, recent reports suggest a significant shift in the timeline, with the highly anticipated Ram 1500 REV electric pickup and Ram 1500 Ramcharger plug-in hybrid now potentially delayed until mid-2027. At Tynan Ram, we’re closely monitoring these updates to keep our customers informed and ready for what’s next.

    Electrification Setbacks for Ram’s Line-Up

Initially slated for release by the end of 2024, the Ram 1500 REV was first unveiled in early 2023 with bold promises of taking on electric rivals like the Ford F-150 Lightning, Chevrolet Silverado EV, Tesla Cybertruck, and Rivian R1T. However, as reported by Motor1, Stellantis — Ram’s parent company — has now rescheduled the production debut to between June and September 2027, pushing back the original timeline by nearly three years.

Ram 1500 REV: Electric Muscle, Redefined

The Ram 1500 REV is built on the trusted framework of the existing 1500 body, replacing internal combustion engines with a dedicated electric drivetrain. This bold EV platform aims to preserve the strength and versatility Ram trucks are known for, but in a zero-emissions package. Although Stellantis has cancelled the longest-range version, expectations remain high for this model to deliver on performance and capability.

Despite these delays, Ram’s commitment to electric innovation remains strong — and at Tynan Ram, we’re excited to be part of that transition when the REV eventually hits our showroom floor.

Ram 1500 Ramcharger: Range Extender Plug-In Hybrid

Meanwhile, the Ram 1500 Ramcharger, revealed in November 2023, has also experienced delays but is expected to enter production in early 2026 (January to March). Swapping a conventional engine for a plug-in hybrid powertrain, the Ramcharger boasts:

    • 3.6-litre V6 petrol engine (acting solely as a generator)
    • 92kWh battery pack
    • Over 1100km of combined driving range

This model’s range-extender technology ensures flexibility for Aussie drivers, especially in rural areas where charging infrastructure remains limited.

At Tynan Ram, we believe the Ramcharger represents an exciting middle ground for those not ready to go fully electric but eager to reduce emissions and fuel dependency.

A Waiting Game in the EV Race

With production delays now expected to push the Ram 1500 REV to 2027 and the Ramcharger to early 2026, rival brands like Ford, Chevrolet, and Tesla continue to enjoy a head start in the electric ute market. However, Ram’s unique combination of towing capacity, range-extending tech, and iconic American styling will no doubt make a powerful comeback.
