Tynan Subaru is proud to announce that the 2025 Subaru Crosstrek and 2025 Subaru Impreza have been awarded the coveted 5-star ANCAP safety rating, following key safety upgrades that make these vehicles smarter, safer, and more responsive on Australian roads.

5-Star ANCAP Safety Rating for MY25 Models

Only Model Year 2025 (MY25) vehicles of the Subaru Crosstrek and Impreza—built from April 2025 onwards—have received this top-tier ANCAP recognition. These upgraded models are now officially on sale at Tynan Subaru, delivering the next generation of safety for Australian drivers.

Earlier models, manufactured between 2023 and March 2025, remain unrated by ANCAP due to hardware limitations in traffic sign recognition. However, MY25 vehicles now come equipped with enhanced hardware and updated software, allowing for the recognition of critical traffic signs such as Stop, Give Way, and No Entry signs.

    What’s New in 2025?

Subaru has made specific changes to the EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology, enhancing both speed sign detection and overall traffic sign recognition:

“There has been an update to the EyeSight system with some additional hardware to update the speed sign recognition system as well as the new traffic sign recognition which now helps detect traffic signs such as No Entry, Give Way and Stop signs,” a Subaru Australia spokesperson said.

These improvements played a major role in securing the 5-star rating from Australasia's New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP).

    Safety Scores Breakdown

Both vehicles scored strongly across all categories:

    • Adult Occupant Protection: 83%
    • Child Occupant Protection: 91%
    • Safety Assistance: 73%
    • Speed Assistance System (SAS): 2.43/3 points

The Subaru Crosstrek received an 85% rating for vulnerable road user protection, while the Impreza followed closely with 84%. ANCAP highlighted that upper leg protection was superior in the Crosstrek, whereas the Impreza offered slightly better head and lower leg protection for pedestrians.

“The Subaru Crosstrek is an important model for the Australian and New Zealand markets and continues to be a popular choice for fleet and private buyers alike,” said ANCAP CEO Carla Hoorweg.
